Students performed in the college's production of the play "Hand to God" by Robert Askins. Performances were September 30-October 2 in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College. "Hand to God" is an irreverent, occasionally shocking, and perpetually hysterical romp that explores ideas of faith, morality, and human nature. Tad Janes, artistic director of the Maryland Ensemble Theatre in Frederick, Md., was the guest director for the production. Assistant professor Shana Joslyn was the scene, light and sound designer and adjunct lecturer Melissa Gilbert was the costume and puppet designer. Stage Manager was senior Nicholle D'Anna, an English-theatre arts dual major from Essex, Md.

McDaniel College students were inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society on Sept. 26. Alpha Lambda Delta (First Year Seminar) recognizes students who completed their first year at McDaniel with a 3.7 grade point average (GPA) or higher.

McDaniel College has awarded select first-year and transfer students with Military Legacy Scholarships valued at up to $100,000 for each student. All military veterans, active-duty military personnel and their children can apply for this guaranteed scholarship to attend McDaniel College.

McDaniel College has awarded select first-year and transfer students with Educator's Legacy Scholarships valued at up to $100,000 for each student. Children with a parent or guardian who has at least four years of current and consecutive full-time employment at a K-12 school or community college can apply for this guaranteed scholarship to attend McDaniel College. Any service qualifies, such as teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses, or support staff, as long as the employment is directly through the school or college.

McDaniel College has awarded select first-year and transfer students with Alumni Legacy Scholarships valued at up to $100,000 for each student. Children, stepchildren and grandchildren of alumni who graduated from McDaniel (formerly Western Maryland) College are eligible to receive this guaranteed scholarship to attend the college.

McDaniel College students have contracted non-scholarship with the Green Terror Battalion. Students will be commissioned as Second Lieutenants and will incur a service commitment to be served on active duty, in the Army Reserve, or National Guard upon graduating from McDaniel.

Scott Seburn, a junior with a double major in philosophy and history, was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel College. He spent his summer as the summer living history and historic gardener intern at the Conococheague Institute in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. This hands-on regional learning center is located within a 30-acre site that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

McDaniel College students have earned Army ROTC Scholarships. Scholarships totaling nearly $2.3 million were awarded to the Green Terror Battalion. The scholarship, which is awarded based on scholastic, athletic and leadership attributes, covers full tuition, room and board, and fees, plus additional funds for books, as well as a monthly living stipend. Molly Sherman, a senior with a double major in economics and environmental studies with a specialization in biology, was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel College. She spent her summer working at MAGIC (Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory) in Westminster, Md., where she had the opportunity to lead and conduct research, as well as assist with writing and photography. She is continuing this research this fall.

Mark Flores, a senior with a kinesiology-chemistry dual major, was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel College. He spent his summer as a virtual research assistant with the Science and Mathematics Educational Research Collaborative at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he was involved in constructing and conducting focus groups, as well as developing assessment tools to measure student retention.

Mariama Mohammed, a junior with a major in computer science was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel College. She spent her summer interning with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where she was involved in coding and learned how to read patents.

Liz Mince, a senior and art major with a specialization in graphic design, was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel College. She spent her summer working with Chloe Irla, assistant professor of art at McDaniel College, on branding, design, and social media for Snowballtimore, which aims to document and preserve Baltimore's snowball tradition.

Julia Fato, a senior majoring in criminal justice was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel College. She spent her summer working for the Maryland Public Defender's Office, where she gained hands-on experience in a legal setting and observed what it is like to work as a Public Defender

Dalanda Diallo of Montgomery Village, a senior at McDaniel College, was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel's Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO). Diallo, who has both a political science major with a specialization in international studies and a student-designed major in French studies, spent her summer working as a congressional intern for U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen. Her internship allowed her to gain experience in writing to governmental organizations and agencies while advocating for and representing constituents in Maryland.

Emily Camizzi of Tenafly, a senior at McDaniel College, was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel's Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO). Camizzi, who is majoring in social work with minors in psychology and sociology, spent her summer interning virtually with the American Red Cross of Central Maryland and the Central Maryland Disaster Action Team.

Ada E. Mejia Chevez, a senior with a double major in political science with a specialization in American politics and law and sociology with a specialization in criminal justice, was awarded a Summer Intern Fellowship from McDaniel College. She spent her summer interning virtually with the Special Victims Unit in Montgomery County.

McDaniel College students have participated in immersive experiences applying classroom learning with either a real-world internship, job, or volunteer opportunity during Summer 2021. A signature component of McDaniel's customized, interdisciplinary curriculum is the McDaniel Commitment, which guarantees every student two experiential learning opportunities, such as an internship or independent study.

McDaniel College students participated in the Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program. Students interested in undergraduate research are annually selected to participate in this eight-week program, which is supported by donors.

McDaniel College rising junior John Mendenhall is looking forward to having a deeper understanding of Middle Eastern culture after being awarded a national study abroad scholarship. Mendenhall of Bethesda, Md., has been awarded a James G. Stemler Study Abroad Scholarship from Alpha Lambda Delta.

Nearly 30 juniors, sophomores and first-year students have earned awards for academic achievement and leadership from McDaniel College.

McDaniel College announces its Spring 2021 Dean's List, recognizing full-time undergraduate students for outstanding academic achievement. Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 grade point average.
