McDaniel College Student Named a 2020 Key into Public Service Scholar by The Phi Beta Kappa Society
McDaniel College student Jessia Avila is one of 20 students selected from over 600 applicants across the U.S. as an inaugural Key into Public Service Scholar by The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation's most prestigious academic honor society. McDaniel is one of 290 colleges and universities with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. The award recognizes students who have demonstrated interest in working in the public sector and possess a strong academic record in the liberal arts and sciences.

McDaniel Graduate Student Commissioned as Second Lieutenant
McDaniel College graduate student Cross Okereke was one of nine cadets from the Green Terror Battalion commissioned during a virtual ceremony on May 22 as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Okereke is pursuing a master's degree at McDaniel in Counseling with a Clinical Mental Health specialization.

McDaniel College junior Marlowe Embry of San Jose, Calif. 95035 (J.H. Pitman), has been honored with an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award from Diverse: Issues In Higher Education. This is the second consecutive year that Embry, who is a Kinesiology major at McDaniel, has been recognized.

On May 5, 28 McDaniel students were virtually inducted into the Delta of Maryland Chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. Founded in 1776, The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation's oldest academic honor society.

McDaniel College Senior Isabella Mendiola Receives National Graduate Fellowship Award
McDaniel College senior Isabella Mendiola, a kinesiology major from Frederick, Md., has been awarded the Dean Adele Hagner Stamp Graduate Fellowship from Alpha Lambda Delta. The graduate fellowship, which is in the amount of $2,000, is for the 2020-21 academic year. Mendiola is planning to pursue a doctorate degree in occupational therapy.

McDaniel College Students Selected to Present at Chemistry Conference
Sixteen McDaniel students collaborated on research with chemistry professors Dana Ferraris, Peter Craig, Stephanie Homan and Michael Polen, through McDaniel's student-faculty collaborative summer research program. As part of the experience, students were selected to present at the American Chemical Society annual conference in Philadelphia.

McDaniel College Senior Ravi Patel Receives Fulbright Award
Ravi Patel, a senior at McDaniel College, has been named a Fulbright finalist for an English Teaching Assistant Award in Indonesia. Patel is the 12th McDaniel student to ever receive a Fulbright scholarship. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program, sponsored by the Department of State, is the largest American international exchange program with approximately 8,000 grants awarded annually. More than 390,000 participants from over 160 countries have participated in the Fulbright program since 1946.

Students are participating in the internships as part of McDaniel College's Writing for Nonprofit Organizations course.
