Six McDaniel College graduates were commissioned May 20 as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army and graduated from the college with Bachelor of Arts degrees on May 21.

Incoming students have enrolled at McDaniel College as members of the Class of 2026. This list includes students who have deposited as of May 3, 2022.

Ada Mejia, a senior at McDaniel College majoring in political science and sociology, received a Phenomenal Woman Award from McDaniel College.

McDaniel College students perform in the Gospel Choir Concert on Saturday, May 7, 7:30 p.m., in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. Under the direction of music lecturer Shelley Ensor, the concert features traditional and contemporary gospel music.

Graduating senior cinema majors premiere student-produced digital features at the McDaniel Cinema Showcase. The McDaniel Cinema Showcase features capstone films written, directed, produced and edited by cinema majors at McDaniel as portfolios of their work.

McDaniel College students perform in the College Band Concert. The performance is Friday, May 6, 7 p.m., in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. It is free and open to the public.

McDaniel College students perform during Jazz Night on Thursday, May 5. Directed by Tim Jenkins, music lecturer at McDaniel, Jazz Night features diverse styles of jazz, including classic big band swing, bebop, Latin, Funk, Jazz-rock, and classic blues.

The McDaniel College Department of Music presented a performance by the Student African Drum Ensembles on Thursday, April 28. The Student African Drum Ensembles are under the direction of McDaniel music department faculty Pape Demba "Paco" Samb, a "Senegalese Griot," or West African historian, storyteller, singer, poet, dancer, and/or musician.

McDaniel College students were inducted April 13 into the Phi Sigma Iota international honor society for foreign languages.

Sydney Hinnant, a sophomore Psychology major, was awarded a Griswold-Zepp award from McDaniel College for a mental health awareness and support project. The Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO) at McDaniel oversees the Griswold-Zepp Award, which can total up to $3,000 for proposed volunteer experiences of McDaniel students, addressing the needs of local, regional, national, or worldwide communities.

McDaniel College's A Cappella Ensemble, the premier vocal ensemble at McDaniel, performs under the guidance of Kyle Engler, senior lecturer in music, on Monday, May 2, at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. The event is free and open to the public.

McDaniel College students perform selections from renowned operas and Broadway musicals during Singing on Stage on Sunday, May 1, at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. The performance is free and open to the public.

Dalanda Diallo of Montgomery Village (20886), a senior at McDaniel College who has both a Political Science major with a specialization in International Studies and a student-designed major in French Studies, has been awarded a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study Swahili this summer. Only 10 percent of applicants for the CLS are accepted for the scholarship.

Works by graduating art students at McDaniel College are highlighted in the Senior Capstone Exhibition titled "explorations of 14 emerging artists." The exhibition, which runs Thursday, April 28-Friday, May 13, features a range of media, from traditional two- and three-dimensional approaches, to digital and new media.

McDaniel College Theatre Arts presented "Out of Time," a devised theatre production, April 20 through April 23 at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md.

McDaniel College students performed in the College Choir Concert on Sunday, April 24, at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. The performance was titled "Spring Renewal" and featured music from diverse locales and historical eras.

McDaniel College student Haley Arnold peforms with the Westminster Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, April 30, 3 p.m., in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. The concert is free and open to the public. The orchestra is composed of McDaniel students and music faculty, Carroll Community College students and music faculty, and community musicians. Senior music lecturer Linda Kirkpatrick directs the orchestra with Carroll Community College's Cindy Rosenberg serving as assistant director.

McDaniel College students performed in the Student Solo Recital on Friday, April 22. The recital featured a selection of vocal and instrumental soloists performing a variety of music spanning from classical to contemporary.

McDaniel College junior Colin Hartlieb, a business administration major, competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Hartlieb presented Friendly Neighbor Services App. Friendly Neighbor Services is an on-demand service providing platform that connects homeowners with providers offering up to 300+ essential services like dog walking, lawn care, and snow removal.

McDaniel College sophomore Nick Foley, a communication major with an environmental studies minor, competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Foley and team member, Julia Hurlock of Elkridge, Md., presented Crooked Creations. Crooked Creations creates layered candles and pride-themed boxes to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

Joshua Arruda of Morrisville won the $5,000 top prize for first place at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Arruda also got $1,000 as the People's Choice winner. He is a senior accounting, economics, and business administration triple major at McDaniel. Arruda presented HiQ Basketball. HiQ Basketball is a subscription service for youth athletes, leveraging existing online platforms, to deliver Basketball IQ Training at basketball camps and to individuals.

Laura Vonella of New Oxford won the $1,000 runner-up prize at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Vonella, a sophomore art-communication major with a minor in entrepreneurship at McDaniel, presented Aunt Fancy's. Aunt Fancy's sells honey and bee products, with plans to establish a physical store location.

Kiyara Fleming of Baltimore won the $1,000 Community Changer award at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Fleming, a sophomore sociology major at McDaniel, presented Dspence LLC. Dspence LLC creates clothing inspired by historical Black missionaries, to inspire education on Black history through fashion.

McDaniel College sophomore Julia Hurlock, a double major in marketing and business administration and a concentration in entrepreneurship, competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Hurlock and team member, Nick Foley of Robbinsville, N.J., presented Crooked Creations. Crooked Creations creates layered candles and pride-themed boxes to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

On March 27, 19 students were inducted into McDaniel College's Delta of Maryland Chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. Founded in 1776, The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation's oldest academic honor society.

McDaniel College's Department of Art presents "Impressions of Individualism," the college's annual honors art exhibition, Monday, March 21-Friday, April 1, in Rice Gallery, Peterson Hall. An artists' reception will be held Thursday, March 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m., with artist talks beginning at 6 p.m. McDaniel students exhibiting their work are Kaylen Buschhorn, Laurel Conover, Ezerae Ham, Laura Midkiff, Liz Mince, and Leah Wilder.

Three students represented McDaniel College at the Maryland Collegiate Honors Conference held virtually on Feb. 25-26. McDaniel College Honors students Rebecca Halaney, Zach Ruggerie, and Raquel Sobczak were excited to have the opportunity to present at the conference and enjoyed hearing and learning of the stories and research from other presenters.

McDaniel College Theatre presents "Sherlock! The Musical," directed by senior adjunct lecturer in theatre arts Julie Herber. Alison Shafer serves as musical director.

McDaniel College students were chosen to participate in "Maryland Independent Higher Education Day" in Annapolis, Md., on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

McDaniel College students participated in internships during the college's January Term. Known as Jan Term, this three-week session allows students to explore new areas and expand their intellectual horizons with specially designed courses, as well as internships and independent study opportunities.
