Sydney Hinnant, a sophomore Psychology major, was awarded a Griswold-Zepp award from McDaniel College for a mental health awareness and support project. The Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO) at McDaniel oversees the Griswold-Zepp Award, which can total up to $3,000 for proposed volunteer experiences of McDaniel students, addressing the needs of local, regional, national, or worldwide communities.

McDaniel College Senior Dalanda Diallo Lands U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship

Dalanda Diallo of Montgomery Village (20886), a senior at McDaniel College who has both a Political Science major with a specialization in International Studies and a student-designed major in French Studies, has been awarded a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) to study Swahili this summer. Only 10 percent of applicants for the CLS are accepted for the scholarship.

Joshua Arruda of Morrisville won $5K Top Prize at McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge

Joshua Arruda of Morrisville won the $5,000 top prize for first place at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Arruda also got $1,000 as the People's Choice winner. He is a senior accounting, economics, and business administration triple major at McDaniel. Arruda presented HiQ Basketball. HiQ Basketball is a subscription service for youth athletes, leveraging existing online platforms, to deliver Basketball IQ Training at basketball camps and to individuals.

McDaniel College sophomore Nick Foley, a communication major with an environmental studies minor, competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Foley and team member, Julia Hurlock of Elkridge, Md., presented Crooked Creations. Crooked Creations creates layered candles and pride-themed boxes to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

Laura Vonella of New Oxford won the $1,000 runner-up prize at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Vonella, a sophomore art-communication major with a minor in entrepreneurship at McDaniel, presented Aunt Fancy's. Aunt Fancy's sells honey and bee products, with plans to establish a physical store location.

Hartlieb presented Friendly Neighbor Services App. Friendly Neighbor Services is an on-demand service providing platform that connects homeowners with providers offering up to 300+ essential services like dog walking, lawn care, and snow removal.

Kiyara Fleming of Baltimore won the $1,000 Community Changer award at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Fleming, a sophomore sociology major at McDaniel, presented Dspence LLC. Dspence LLC creates clothing inspired by historical Black missionaries, to inspire education on Black history through fashion.

On March 27, 19 students were inducted into McDaniel College's Delta of Maryland Chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. Founded in 1776, The Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation's oldest academic honor society.

McDaniel College selects 16 students into the college's Global Fellows program. The Global Fellows program is a three-year program that is designed to enhance students' understanding of global issues, develop heightened intercultural competency and cultivate the skills and attitudes important to leading successful lives in a global context. Students earn a Global Fellow designation on their transcript upon completion of the program.

McDaniel College announces its Fall 2021 Dean's List, recognizing full-time undergraduate students for outstanding academic achievement. Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 grade point average.

McDaniel College students participated in the Model European Union in Washington, D.C.

McDaniel's delegation of 12 students represented both Ireland and the Netherlands and were accompanied by Christianna N. Leahy, chair of the political science and international studies department at McDaniel. The Mid-Atlantic European Union Simulation engages students in discussions and debates that are both current and topical on the European Union (EU)'s agenda. Over 100 students from colleges and universities throughout the mid-Atlantic region participate in the simulation. The topic for the conference was the European Green Deal and the students had briefings on the Green Deal, alternative energy, and Brexit.
