McDaniel College students participated in the Model European Union 2025 Simulation conference in Washington, D.C., held Nov. 13-15. A delegation of eight students represented Portugal and were accompanied to the conference by Christianna N. Leahy, professor in the Political Science and International Studies department at McDaniel.

McDaniel College's Biology department hosted a fall research symposium, titled "Antennae, Tentacles, and Beyond," on Wednesday, Dec. 3, held at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. McDaniel Biology students presented their research from fall semester course-based projects on ecology, marine symbiosis, entomology, antibiotic resistance, and more, including scientific posters.

McDaniel College students were recognized at the Nov. 16 Undergraduate Awards Ceremony. Current seniors, juniors, and sophomores were honored for academic achievement and leadership.

McDaniel College students were named to McDaniel's 2025 Homecoming Court. The Homecoming Court was presented Oct. 25 during pre-game activities of the Green Terror football game.

Select McDaniel College alumni who majored in Elementary Education or minored in PreK-12 or Secondary Education were named Teachers of Promise by the Maryland State Department of Education. Nominations were based on GPA, service, leadership, and their performance during their student teaching semester. Teachers of Promise were matched with a veteran teacher to mentor and guide them through their transition from college to the classroom.

Recent McDaniel College graduate Abigail Walker was named a Distinguished Teacher Candidate by the Maryland Association of Teacher Educators (MATE).

Cinema majors at McDaniel College premiered their original student-produced narrative and documentary films during the annual McDaniel Cinema Showcase. The students wrote, directed, produced, and edited films as the culminating project for their senior capstone. Screenings took place Wednesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 8, at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland.

A group of seven students from McDaniel College participated in "Independent Higher Education Day" in Annapolis, Maryland, on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Accompanied by President Julia Jasken, Associate Vice President for Administration and Government Relations Jenni Glennon, and Social Work Professor Jim Kunz, the McDaniel students from Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Montgomery, Prince George's, and Worcester counties, participated in presentations and visited with their elected officials.

McDaniel College selects students into the college's Global Fellows program. The Global Fellows program is designed to enhance students' understanding of global issues, develop heightened intercultural competency, and cultivate the skills and attitudes important to leading successful lives in a global context. Students earn a Global Fellow designation on their transcript upon completion of the program.

McDaniel College students presented student-faculty research findings at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (MARC-ACSM) Annual Meeting held Nov. 1-2, 2024, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The students' collaborative Kinesiology research projects in exercise science were conducted with mentorship from McDaniel faculty members Jennifer McKenzie, professor of Kinesiology, and Richard Laird, associate professor of Kinesiology.

Four McDaniel College students were selected to present with McDaniel Assistant Professor of Education Laura Bitto at the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) annual conference held in Howard County at Reservoir High School in Fulton, Maryland, on Oct. 18.

Accounting majors at McDaniel College participated in McDaniel's annual Interviewing Day on Oct. 4. The students had the opportunity to meet during a three-hour time period with regional firms, many of which were represented by McDaniel alumni.

Select graduating seniors from McDaniel College majoring in Elementary Education or minoring in PreK-12 or Secondary Education were named Teachers of Promise by the Maryland State Department of Education. These students, nominated based on GPA, service, leadership, and their performance during their student teaching semester, are mentored by award-winning educators in Maryland and had the opportunity to participate in a one-day Teachers of Promise Institute.

Five McDaniel College seniors were invited to present at the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society Mid-Atlantic Conference held April 6.

McDaniel College selects seven students as National Security Fellows. The National Security Fellows Program pairs with any program of study and provides McDaniel students with robust knowledge, skills, and experience in national security as well as the ability to specialize in an area of interest, such as interstate conflict, intra-state political violence, cybersecurity, ethics, and human rights

Melissa Torres of Baltimore (21224) won the $1,000 runner-up prize and $1,000 for the Community Changer at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 18 at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Torres is a senior Business Administration major.

Cinema majors at McDaniel College premiere original student-produced fiction and documentary films during the McDaniel Cinema Showcase on Thursday, May 2. Each student wrote, directed, produced, and edited capstone films as portfolios of their work. After each film premieres, there will be a short Q&A with the student filmmaker.

Josiah Yung of Takoma Park (20912) won the $5,000 top prize for first place and $1,000 for People's Choice at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 18 at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Yung is a freshman Art major with a specialization in Graphic Design and Communication major.

Senior Theatre Arts major Kim Parson's passion for lighting design has earned her national recognition. Parson of Pikesville, Maryland, was one of only 12 students from around the country invited to participate in the United States Institute for Theatre Technology's Gateway Program, which provides mentorship opportunities for underrepresented students. She was also one of only 11 finalists asked to present at the Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in January and will represent the region at next week's KCACTF national festival.

Six McDaniel College students were selected to present their student-faculty research findings at the American Chemical Society's national conference held in New Orleans, March 17-21.

Six McDaniel College students were selected to present their student-faculty research findings at the 87th annual Intercollegiate Student Chemists Convention held April 6 at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. This long-running conference for undergraduate students included 84 undergraduate research presentations in the chemical sciences from students representing colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey.

McDaniel College junior Javon Spencer of New Castle was selected as one of six 2024 Innovators of Progress Fellows. This one-year pre-accelerator program, which is an independent affiliate of MAGIC (the Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory), supports entrepreneurial college students in becoming full-time founders of their own technology-enabled ventures. Spencer is a Business Administration major with a minor in Entrepreneurship at McDaniel.
