McDaniel College student Sana Askari wins $5K top prize at Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge

Sana Askari won the $5,000 top prize for first place at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 29 at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Askari is a junior Political Science, Business Administration, and Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies major.

Jaden Silverman, a senior American Sign Language major from Manhattan, New York, tied for the $1,000 People's Choice award at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 29 at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland.

Five McDaniel College students competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 29. In addition to the $5,000 top prize, $1,000 was awarded to the People's Choice winner. Plus, all finalists who successfully completed all requirements for participating in the Innovation Challenge were awarded $800.

Five McDaniel College students competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 18. In addition to the $5,000 top prize, other cash prizes included $1,000 for the runner-up, $1,000 for the People's Choice, and $1,000 for the Community Changer.

Joshua Arruda of Morrisville won $5K Top Prize at McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge

Joshua Arruda of Morrisville won the $5,000 top prize for first place at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Arruda also got $1,000 as the People's Choice winner. He is a senior accounting, economics, and business administration triple major at McDaniel. Arruda presented HiQ Basketball. HiQ Basketball is a subscription service for youth athletes, leveraging existing online platforms, to deliver Basketball IQ Training at basketball camps and to individuals.

Hartlieb presented Friendly Neighbor Services App. Friendly Neighbor Services is an on-demand service providing platform that connects homeowners with providers offering up to 300+ essential services like dog walking, lawn care, and snow removal.

Laura Vonella of New Oxford won the $1,000 runner-up prize at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Vonella, a sophomore art-communication major with a minor in entrepreneurship at McDaniel, presented Aunt Fancy's. Aunt Fancy's sells honey and bee products, with plans to establish a physical store location.

Kiyara Fleming of Baltimore won the $1,000 Community Changer award at the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Fleming, a sophomore sociology major at McDaniel, presented Dspence LLC. Dspence LLC creates clothing inspired by historical Black missionaries, to inspire education on Black history through fashion.

McDaniel College sophomore Nick Foley, a communication major with an environmental studies minor, competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 21. Foley and team member, Julia Hurlock of Elkridge, Md., presented Crooked Creations. Crooked Creations creates layered candles and pride-themed boxes to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

CeReal is an app that organizes student activities, interests, and organizations to increase community engagement at colleges.

Carly Critchfield of Grass Lake Competed for $5K Top Prize at McDaniel College Entrepreneurship Competition

McDaniel College senior Carly Critchfield, an economics and political science major with a minor in Arabic from Grass Lake, Mich., competed in the fifth annual McDaniel College Entrepreneurship Competition, formerly the Innovation Challenge Finals. FluentSpeak presented by Critchfield utilizes short, language-specific assessments to match world language learners together at similar skill levels. "This is the first online platform specifically designed for those seeking to practice and improve their conversational language skills to be used in conjunction with or after completion of their world language studies," according to Critchfield.

Prime Reach presented by junior Joshua Arruda, an accounting, economics, and business administration major from Morrisville, Pa., received $1,000 as the People's Choice Award winner of the fifth annual McDaniel College Entrepreneurship Competition, formerly the Innovation Challenge Finals. Prime Reach is a one-stop shop for independent artists and musicians seeking the right promotion. "All playlists are checked through chart metrics to ensure absolutely organic engagement," according to Arruda.

McDaniel College Students on Team Crowned Beauty Won $1K Second Place Prize at McDaniel College Entrepreneurship Competition

Crowned Beauty, presented by sophomores Jani Pierre, a business administration major with minors in entrepreneurship and marketing from Frederick, Md., and Mariama Mohammed, a computer science major from Woodbridge, Va., won $1,000 for second place in the fifth annual McDaniel College Entrepreneurship Competition, formerly the Innovation Challenge Finals. Crowned Beauty will be the first business of its kind in Westminster, Md. "There are no beauty stores that cater specifically to people of color, and it would help McDaniel students who have to travel outside of Westminster to find basic hair products," according to Pierre and Mohammed.

Life Tacos aims at giving people healthier food options that are more affordable and accessible.
