The National Security Fellows Program pairs with any program of study and provides McDaniel students with robust knowledge, skills, and experience in national security as well as the ability to specialize in an area of interest, such as interstate conflict, intra-state political violence, cybersecurity, ethics, and human rights

Cinema majors at McDaniel College premiere original student-produced fiction and documentary films during the McDaniel Cinema Showcase on Thursday, May 2. Each student wrote, directed, produced, and edited capstone films as portfolios of their work. After each film premieres, there will be a short Q&A with the student filmmaker.

McDaniel College selects 12 students into the college's Global Fellows program. The Global Fellows program is designed to enhance students' understanding of global issues, develop heightened intercultural competency, and cultivate the skills and attitudes important to leading successful lives in a global context. Students earn a Global Fellow designation on their transcript upon completion of the program.

Works by Art majors at McDaniel College are highlighted in the first of two capstone exhibitions, titled "Stereotypically Human." The exhibition runs Tuesday, April 23-Friday, May 10, in McDaniel's Esther Prangley Rice Gallery in Peterson Hall. An opening reception takes place Friday, April 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a gallery talk at 6 p.m.

Under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in music at McDaniel, the orchestra is composed of McDaniel College students and music faculty, Carroll Community College students and music faculty, and community musicians.

Students perform in the McDaniel College Band Concert on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Directed by senior lecturer Linda Kirkpatrick, the College Band features nearly 50 musicians, including McDaniel students, as well as McDaniel Music faculty members Mike Hirsh and Rachel Andrews, band alumni and community musicians, performing musical selections ranging from classical to pops.

Directed by Tim Jenkins, senior adjunct lecturer of Music, Jazz Night features diverse styles of jazz, including classic big band swing, bebop, Latin, funk, jazz-rock, and classic blues.

McDaniel College students perform in the A Capella Ensemble on Monday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Baker Chapel at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The group, called the Green TerrorTones, is the premier vocal ensemble at McDaniel College.

McDaniel College students in the college's Singing on Stage class perform on Sunday, April 28, at 7 p.m., in the Dorothy Elderdice Studio Theatre in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The class is taught by Kyle Engler, senior lecturer of Music, and the students perform selections from operas and Broadway musicals. Peggy Brengle serves as accompanist.

McDaniel College students perform in the Student African Drum Ensembles on Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. in Naganna Forum, Roj Student Center, at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The ensembles are under the direction of McDaniel Music senior adjunct lecturer Pape Demba "Paco" Samb, a Senegalese griot.

McDaniel College sophomore Grace Hill, an Accounting and Theatre Arts major from Essex (21221-1812), stage manages the McDaniel College Theatre Arts department's production of "The Underpants," an adaptation of Carl Sternheim's classic 1910 farce by comic actor and author Steve Martin.

Melissa Torres of Baltimore (21224) won the $1,000 runner-up prize and $1,000 for the Community Changer at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 18 at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Torres is a senior Business Administration major.

Five McDaniel College students competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 18. In addition to the $5,000 top prize, other cash prizes included $1,000 for the runner-up, $1,000 for the People's Choice, and $1,000 for the Community Changer.

Josiah Yung of Takoma Park (20912) won the $5,000 top prize for first place and $1,000 for People's Choice at the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 18 at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Yung is a freshman Art major with a specialization in Graphic Design and Communication major.

Students were recognized April 11 by McDaniel College's chapter of the Omicron Delta Epsilon international honor society for economics.

Senior Theatre Arts major Kim Parson's passion for lighting design has earned her national recognition. Parson of Pikesville, Maryland, was one of only 12 students from around the country invited to participate in the United States Institute for Theatre Technology's Gateway Program, which provides mentorship opportunities for underrepresented students. She was also one of only 11 finalists asked to present at the Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in January and will represent the region at next week's KCACTF national festival.

Students were inducted April 5 into McDaniel College's Alpha Mu Chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) national biological honor society. There were two inductees for associate membership and 10 for active membership. Ben Smith, director of the McDaniel College STEM Center, was also inducted as an honorary member.

Six McDaniel College students were selected to present their student-faculty research findings at the 87th annual Intercollegiate Student Chemists Convention held April 6 at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. This long-running conference for undergraduate students included 84 undergraduate research presentations in the chemical sciences from students representing colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey.
