McDaniel College students performed in the Student African Drum Ensemble on Thursday, Nov. 17. The performance took place at 7 p.m. in Baker Memorial Chapel at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. The Ensembles were under the direction of McDaniel music department faculty member Pape Demba "Paco" Samb, a "Senegalese Griot," or West African historian, storyteller, singer, poet, dancer, and musician.

McDaniel College students performed in the Student Solo Recital on Friday, November 11. The recital featured a selection of vocal and instrumental soloists performing a variety of music spanning from classical to contemporary.

Trumpeters is a leadership honor society that recognizes exemplary qualities of leadership, integrity, and sincerity. Those selected are called to serve as positive examples of the campus by devoting themselves to academics, extracurricular activities and service. Students may apply for membership in the Spring semester of their junior year.

McDaniel College students were recognized at the Nov. 6 Undergraduate Awards ceremony. More than 20 honors for academic achievement and leadership were awarded to current seniors, juniors, and sophomores.

McDaniel College inducted 29 students into the Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society.

Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, was installed at the College in 1963. Membership in the society is a high honor, for it carries with it the responsibility of encouraging students in leadership and community service. Juniors and seniors who stand in the upper 35 percent of their classes are eligible and selected on the basis of exceptional leadership in various aspects of campus life.

Kim Parson, a junior at McDaniel College, has been recognized for her passion for lighting design and stagecraft with a 2022 Collier Robert Woods, Jr. Scholarship. Parson of Pikesville, Md., is a theatre arts major with a cinema minor.

McDaniel College Theatre presents "Radium Girls," D.W. Gregory's recounting of the tragedy of Marie Curie's factory workers at the college. Performances are Thursday, November 17-Saturday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. on the WMC Alumni Hall Mainstage at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md.

McDaniel College students were recently named to McDaniel's Homecoming Court during Homecoming on the Hill 2022. The homecoming court was presented Oct. 1 during pre-game activities. Two students from each class level were selected to be on the homecoming court.

McDaniel College students have been recognized by the Green Terror Army ROTC Battalion.

Kori Bryant has contracted non-scholarship with the Green Terror Battalion.

The scholarship, which is awarded based on scholastic, athletic and leadership attributes, covers full tuition, room and board, and fees, plus additional funds for books, as well as a monthly living stipend. The student will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and will incur a service commitment to be served on active duty, in the Army Reserve, or National Guard upon graduating from McDaniel.

Eleven McDaniel College students have been awarded Summer Intern Fellowships from McDaniel's Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO). The Summer Intern Fellowship is awarded by the CEO at McDaniel College to provide competitive awards to help defray the cost of summer internships for current students. Recipients represent McDaniel College and the CEO at internship sites throughout the United States and the world.

McDaniel College students participated in the Student-Faculty Collaborative Summer Research Program. Students interested in undergraduate research are annually selected to participate in this summer program, which is supported by donors.

McDaniel College students immersed themselves in another country through their study abroad experience during the summer of 2022. Over one-third of McDaniel students study abroad for academic credit in more than 50 countries.

Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 grade point average.

Elementary Education major Mackenzie McBride, who graduated May 21 summa cum laude with departmental honors in Education from McDaniel College, was named a Distinguished Teacher Candidate by the Maryland Association of Teacher Educators (MATE). Additionally, McBride along with six other graduating seniors were named Teachers of Promise by the Maryland State Department of Education.

Graduating seniors from McDaniel College were named Teachers of Promise by the Maryland State Department of Education and had the opportunity to participate in the Teachers of Promise Institute. Students are nominated as Teachers of Promise on the basis of GPA, service, leadership, and their application and they are provided a mentor to guide them through their transition from college to the classroom.

A group of six McDaniel students received awards at the Maryland Student Legislature annual session held April 30-May 1 at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, Maryland. Political Science professor Matthew Mongiello and Social Work professor Jim Kunz accompanied the students.

McDaniel College students participated in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) 2022 conference April 3-7 in New York City. McDaniel's delegation of 19 students represented the People's Republic of Bangladesh and won two awards.
