Senior Theatre Arts major Kim Parson's passion for lighting design has earned her national recognition. Parson of Pikesville, Maryland, was one of only 12 students from around the country invited to participate in the United States Institute for Theatre Technology's Gateway Program, which provides mentorship opportunities for underrepresented students. She was also one of only 11 finalists asked to present at the Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in January and will represent the region at next week's KCACTF national festival.

Students were inducted April 5 into McDaniel College's Alpha Mu Chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) national biological honor society. There were two inductees for associate membership and 10 for active membership. Ben Smith, director of the McDaniel College STEM Center, was also inducted as an honorary member.

Six McDaniel College students were selected to present their student-faculty research findings at the American Chemical Society's national conference held in New Orleans, March 17-21.

Six McDaniel College students were selected to present their student-faculty research findings at the 87th annual Intercollegiate Student Chemists Convention held April 6 at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. This long-running conference for undergraduate students included 84 undergraduate research presentations in the chemical sciences from students representing colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey.

McDaniel College junior Javon Spencer of New Castle was selected as one of six 2024 Innovators of Progress Fellows. This one-year pre-accelerator program, which is an independent affiliate of MAGIC (the Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory), supports entrepreneurial college students in becoming full-time founders of their own technology-enabled ventures. Spencer is a Business Administration major with a minor in Entrepreneurship at McDaniel.

Students were inducted April 8 into the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society at McDaniel College. Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, was installed at the college in 1963.

Works by Art majors at McDaniel College are highlighted in the first of two capstone exhibitions, titled "I Am Who? This is Me." The exhibition runs Tuesday, April 2-Friday, April 19, in McDaniel's Esther Prangley Rice Gallery, Peterson Hall. An opening reception takes place Friday, April 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a gallery talk at 6 p.m.

On March 24, 24 students were inducted into McDaniel College's Delta of Maryland Chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. Founded in 1776, the Phi Beta Kappa Society is the nation's oldest academic honor society.

Eight McDaniel College students participated in "Maryland Independent Higher Education Day" on Feb. 21.

McDaniel College senior Grayson Jons, a Communication major from Ijamsville (21754), served as a live content correspondent for the NFL. She was one of only three correspondents assigned to the Baltimore Ravens during the 2023-24 season.

Ameerah Johnson of Waldorf, Maryland, a sophomore Criminal Justice and Sociology major at McDaniel College, has been selected as an inaugural fellow for the Service Year Option and Maryland Corps though the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation. Johnson is fulfilling her commitment at McDaniel, which is a host site for the program, where she is assisting with student outreach for various initiatives and programming focused on supporting students across the eight dimensions of wellness - intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, and occupational.

Internships and other experiential learning opportunities, such as study abroad, student-faculty research, and independent study, are key elements of the "My Experience" component of the college's signature McDaniel Commitment.
