McDaniel College announces its fall 2024 dean's list, recognizing full-time undergraduate students for outstanding academic achievement. Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 grade point average.

A group of seven students from McDaniel College participated in "Independent Higher Education Day" in Annapolis, Maryland, on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Accompanied by President Julia Jasken, Associate Vice President for Administration and Government Relations Jenni Glennon, and Social Work Professor Jim Kunz, the McDaniel students from Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Montgomery, Prince George's, and Worcester counties, participated in presentations and visited with their elected officials.

McDaniel College recognizes students who immersed themselves in another country through their study abroad experience during the fall 2024 semester.

McDaniel College students perform in the Gospel Choir Concert on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall's Mainstage Theatre at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The Gospel Choir performs traditional and contemporary gospel music, under the direction of Senior Adjunct Lecturer Shelley Ensor.

McDaniel College students were named to the Trumpeters Leadership Honor Society. Trumpeters is a leadership honor society that recognizes exemplary qualities of leadership, integrity, and sincerity. Those selected are called to serve as positive examples of the campus by devoting themselves to academics, extracurricular activities, and service. Students may apply for membership in the Spring semester of their junior year.

McDaniel College students were inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. Alpha Lambda Delta (First Year Seminar) recognizes students who completed their first year at McDaniel with a 3.7 grade point average (GPA) or higher. Its mission is to encourage superior academic achievement, promote intelligent living and continued high standards and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society.

McDaniel College has awarded select first-year and transfer students with Educator's Legacy Scholarships valued at up to $132,000, or $33,000 annually over four years, for each student. Children with a parent or guardian with at least four years of current and consecutive full-time employment at a K-12 school or community college can apply for this guaranteed scholarship to attend McDaniel College. Any service qualifies, such as teachers, administrators, counselors, or support staff, as long as the employment is directly through the school or college.

McDaniel College students participated in summer 2024 internships. Internships and other experiential learning opportunities, such as study abroad, student-faculty research, and independent study, are key elements of the "My Experience" component of the college's signature McDaniel Commitment. The McDaniel Commitment is supported by the Center for Experience and Opportunity, McDaniel's one-stop shop that focuses on experiential learning and career development.

McDaniel College students earned Army ROTC Scholarships. The scholarship, which is awarded based on scholastic, athletic and leadership attributes, covers full tuition, room and board, and fees, plus additional funds for books, as well as a monthly living stipend. The student will be commissioned as a second lieutenant and will be required to serve active duty in the Army Reserve or National Guard upon graduating from McDaniel.

Transfer students have enrolled at McDaniel College. This list includes students who have deposited as of Aug. 15, 2024.

McDaniel College awarded 407 bachelor's degrees during the college's Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on May 18.

McDaniel College senior Grayson Jons, a Communication major from Ijamsville (21754), served as a live content correspondent for the NFL. She was one of only three correspondents assigned to the Baltimore Ravens during the 2023-24 season.

McDaniel College's daylong Academic Symposium on Monday, April 29, showcased the original research, scholarship, and creative achievements of McDaniel students, faculty, and staff.

Five McDaniel College students competed in the McDaniel College Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge on April 18. In addition to the $5,000 top prize, other cash prizes included $1,000 for the runner-up, $1,000 for the People's Choice, and $1,000 for the Community Changer.

Ameerah Johnson of Waldorf, Maryland, a sophomore Criminal Justice and Sociology major at McDaniel College, has been selected as an inaugural fellow for the Service Year Option and Maryland Corps though the Maryland Department of Service and Civic Innovation. Johnson is fulfilling her commitment at McDaniel, which is a host site for the program, where she is assisting with student outreach for various initiatives and programming focused on supporting students across the eight dimensions of wellness - intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, and occupational.

McDaniel College students participated in the Model European Union 2023 Simulation held Nov. 9-11. A delegation of seven students represented Sweden and were accompanied by Christianna N. Leahy, chair of the Political Science and International Studies department at McDaniel. The Mid-Atlantic European Union Simulation engages students in discussions and debates that are both current and topical on the European Union (EU)'s agenda.

McDaniel College students were recognized during the Nov. 5 Undergraduate Awards ceremony for receiving the college's Griswold-Zepp Award.

A group of six McDaniel students received awards at the Maryland Student Legislature annual session held April 30-May 1 at the Maryland State House in Annapolis, Maryland. Political Science professor Matthew Mongiello and Social Work professor Jim Kunz accompanied the students.

Three students represented McDaniel College at the Maryland Collegiate Honors Conference held virtually on Feb. 25-26. McDaniel College Honors students Rebecca Halaney, Zach Ruggerie, and Raquel Sobczak were excited to have the opportunity to present at the conference and enjoyed hearing and learning of the stories and research from other presenters.

Danielle Carter named a semifinalist for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, Region II. The 2023 Region II Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) was Jan. 17-21, 2023.

McDaniel College senior Marlowe Embry of San Jose, Calif., (J.H. Pitman), a member of the McDaniel volleyball team, has been honored by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education as part of its annual Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars Award. This is the third consecutive year that Embry, who is a kinesiology major at McDaniel, has been recognized.
