Cinema majors premiere films at McDaniel College's Cinema Showcase

Cinema majors at McDaniel College premiere original student-produced fiction and documentary films during the McDaniel Cinema Showcase on Thursday, May 2. Each student wrote, directed, produced, and edited capstone films as portfolios of their work. After each film premieres, there will be a short Q&A with the student filmmaker.

McDaniel College Selects Students as Global Fellows

McDaniel College selects 12 students into the college's Global Fellows program. The Global Fellows program is designed to enhance students' understanding of global issues, develop heightened intercultural competency, and cultivate the skills and attitudes important to leading successful lives in a global context. Students earn a Global Fellow designation on their transcript upon completion of the program.

McDaniel College Art majors showcase work in capstone exhibition

Works by Art majors at McDaniel College are highlighted in the first of two capstone exhibitions, titled "Stereotypically Human." The exhibition runs Tuesday, April 23-Friday, May 10, in McDaniel's Esther Prangley Rice Gallery in Peterson Hall. An opening reception takes place Friday, April 26, 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a gallery talk at 6 p.m.

Directed by senior lecturer Linda Kirkpatrick, the College Band features nearly 50 musicians, including McDaniel students, as well as McDaniel Music faculty members Mike Hirsh and Rachel Andrews, band alumni and community musicians, performing musical selections ranging from classical to pops.

McDaniel College students perform in "The Underpants," an adaptation of Carl Sternheim's classic 1910 farce by comic actor and author Steve Martin. Performances are Thursday, April 25-Saturday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m., on the Mainstage Theatre in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. (Note: the show contains adult material and is intended for mature audiences.) Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors (over 60), active military members and veterans, as well as those with a McDaniel College ID.

McDaniel College senior Theatre Arts major Kim Parson of Pikesville earns national recognition for lighting design

Senior Theatre Arts major Kim Parson's passion for lighting design has earned her national recognition. Parson of Pikesville, Maryland, was one of only 12 students from around the country invited to participate in the United States Institute for Theatre Technology's Gateway Program, which provides mentorship opportunities for underrepresented students. She was also one of only 11 finalists asked to present at the Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in January and will represent the region at next week's KCACTF national festival.

There were two inductees for associate membership and 10 for active membership. Ben Smith, director of the McDaniel College STEM Center, was also inducted as an honorary member.

Six McDaniel College students were selected to present their student-faculty research findings at the 87th annual Intercollegiate Student Chemists Convention held April 6 at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. This long-running conference for undergraduate students included 84 undergraduate research presentations in the chemical sciences from students representing colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey.

McDaniel College junior Javon Spencer of New Castle was selected as one of six 2024 Innovators of Progress Fellows. This one-year pre-accelerator program, which is an independent affiliate of MAGIC (the Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory), supports entrepreneurial college students in becoming full-time founders of their own technology-enabled ventures. Spencer is a Business Administration major with a minor in Entrepreneurship at McDaniel.
