McDaniel College announces its fall 2023 dean's list, recognizing full-time undergraduate students for outstanding academic achievement. Highest honors are earned for a semester grade point average of 3.90 or higher, high honors for a grade point average of 3.70-3.89, and honors for a 3.50-3.69 grade point average.

McDaniel College seniors were awarded top prizes at the Maryland Water Monitoring Council's Annual Conference held Nov. 17 at the Maritime Conference Center in Linthicum Heights, Md.

McDaniel College students perform in the Gospel Choir Concert on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The Gospel Choir performs traditional and contemporary gospel music, as well as spirituals, under the direction of Senior Adjunct Lecturer Shelley Ensor.

Nearly 50 musicians, including McDaniel students, as well as McDaniel faculty members, band alumni, and community musicians, perform, under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in Music.

McDaniel College students perform with the Westminster Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Directed by Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in Music, the Westminster Symphony Orchestra is composed of McDaniel and Carroll Community College students, as well as Music faculty and community musicians.

McDaniel College students perform during Jazz Night on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Directed by Tim Jenkins, senior adjunct lecturer, Jazz Night features diverse styles of jazz, including classic big band swing, bebop, Latin, funk, jazz-rock, and classic blues.

McDaniel College students participated in the Model European Union 2023 Simulation held Nov. 9-11. A delegation of seven students represented Sweden and were accompanied by Christianna N. Leahy, chair of the Political Science and International Studies department at McDaniel. The Mid-Atlantic European Union Simulation engages students in discussions and debates that are both current and topical on the European Union (EU)'s agenda.

The McDaniel College Department of Music presents a performance by its Student African Drum Ensembles on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. The performance takes place in the Roj Student Center's Naganna Forum at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The program features the traditional African songs "Kuku," "Macaru," "Mengani," and "Lambaa," under the direction of Senior Adjunct Lecturer Pape Demba "Paco" Samb, a Senegalese griot.

The McDaniel College Choir presents its fall concert, "Peace/Alleluia," on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m. in Baker Memorial Chapel. The choir is under the direction of Kyle Engler, senior lecturer of Music, with Peggy Brengle serving as accompanist.

McDaniel College students were recognized at the Nov. 5 Undergraduate Awards ceremony. Current seniors, juniors, and sophomores were honored for academic achievement and leadership.

McDaniel College students were recognized during the Nov. 5 Undergraduate Awards ceremony for receiving the college's Griswold-Zepp Award.

McDaniel College students were named to the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society. Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, was installed at the college in 1963. Membership in the society is a high honor, for it carries with it the responsibility of encouraging students in leadership and community service. Juniors and seniors who stand in the upper 35 percent of their classes are eligible and selected on the basis of exceptional leadership in various aspects of campus life.

McDaniel College students were named to the Trumpeters Leadership Honor Society. Trumpeters is a leadership honor society that recognizes exemplary qualities of leadership, integrity, and sincerity. Those selected are called to serve as positive examples of the campus by devoting themselves to academics, extracurricular activities, and service. Students may apply for membership in the Spring semester of their junior year.

McDaniel College students were inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. Alpha Lambda Delta (First Year Seminar) recognizes students who completed their first year at McDaniel with a 3.7 grade point average (GPA) or higher. Its mission is to encourage superior academic achievement, promote intelligent living and continued high standards and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society.

Gene Fouche, chair of McDaniel's Theatre Arts department, directs McDaniel College students in the college's production of the Tony Award-winning musical "Urinetown, The Musical." Performances are Thursday, Nov. 16-Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. (Note: the show contains adult material and is intended for mature audiences.) Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students, seniors (over 60), active military members and veterans, as well as those with a McDaniel College ID.

Katie Klein, a senior Psychology and Kinesiology major at McDaniel College, Westminster, Md., along with two 2023 McDaniel alums, a McDaniel faculty member, and a staff member presented student-faculty research findings at the annual Association for Applied Sport Psychology Conference Oct. 18-21 in Orlando, Fla.

McDaniel College students perform in the Student Solo Recital on Friday, Nov. 10, at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The recital takes place at 7 p.m. in Coley Rice Lounge, McDaniel Hall, and is free and open to the public.

McDaniel College's Department of Music presents a special seasonal concert titled "McDaniel for the Holidays." The free performance takes place Sunday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in Baker Memorial Chapel at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Organized by Shelley Ensor, senior adjunct lecturer, McDaniel students, alumni, faculty, and staff, as well as community members, are scheduled to perform.

McDaniel College's Esther Prangley Rice Gallery showcases a group exhibition of landscapes inspired by student-faculty summer research conducted by Steven Pearson, the Joan Develin Coley Chair in Creative Expression and the Arts, and four Art majors. Titled "Light and Color, Space and Place: Landscape Painting on Site and in the Studio," the exhibition runs Tuesday, Nov. 7-Friday, Dec. 8. An opening reception takes place Thursday, Nov. 9, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a gallery talk beginning at 6 p.m.

McDaniel College students participated in Summer 2023 internships. Internships and other experiential learning opportunities, such as study abroad, student-faculty research, and independent study, are key elements of the "My Experience" component of the college's signature McDaniel Commitment. The McDaniel Commitment is supported by the Center for Experience and Opportunity, McDaniel's one-stop shop that focuses on experiential learning and career development.

McDaniel College students were named to McDaniel's 2023 Homecoming Court. The Homecoming Court was presented Sept. 30 during pre-game activities. Student representatives from each class level were selected to be on the Homecoming Court.

McDaniel College students earned Army ROTC Scholarships. The scholarship, which is awarded based on scholastic, athletic and leadership attributes, covers full tuition, room and board, and fees, plus additional funds for books, as well as a monthly living stipend. The student will be commissioned as a second lieutenant and will be required to serve active duty in the Army Reserve or National Guard upon graduating from McDaniel. Scholarships totaling over $1 million were awarded to the Green Terror Battalion.

McDaniel College students participated in internships during the college's Spring 2023 semester.

McDaniel College students immersed themselves in another country through their study abroad experience during the Spring 2023 semester. Over one-third of McDaniel students study abroad for academic credit in more than 50 countries.

Recent McDaniel College graduate Carly Ludwig was named a Distinguished Teacher Candidate by the Maryland Association of Teacher Educators (MATE).

Select graduating seniors from McDaniel College majoring in Elementary Education or minoring in PreK-12 or Secondary Education were named Teachers of Promise by the Maryland State Department of Education. These students, nominated based on GPA, service, leadership, and their application, are provided with a mentor to guide them through their transition from college to the classroom.and had the opportunity to participate in the Teachers of Promise Institute.
