Josephine M. Otremba of Bel Air, Maryland, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with departmental honors in History, was the recipient of The Edith Farr Ridington Writing Award. Otremba won the top writing award for the research paper titled "Christian Violence in Europe During the Black Death: A Product of Religious Tension and Economic Opportunism."

Jodi Popielaski of Bishopville, Maryland, earned a master's degree in Reading Specialist: Literacy Leadership and received The Joan Develin Coley Award for Excellence in Education during McDaniel College's Graduate Commencement Ceremony on May 23.

McDaniel College awarded 388 bachelor's degrees during the college's Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on May 23. Select graduating seniors also received academic, activity and leadership awards at the Senior Investiture and Honors Convocation on May 22.

McDaniel College students perform during Jazz Night on Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m. in WMC Alumni Hall's Mainstage Theatre at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. Directed by Adjunct Lecturer Brian Frazier, the concert features diverse styles of jazz, including classic big band swing, bebop, Latin, funk, rock, and blues.

McDaniel College students perform in the A Cappella Ensemble on Monday, May 4, at 7 p.m. in Baker Chapel at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The group, called the Green TerrorTones, is the premier vocal ensemble at McDaniel College.

McDaniel College students in the college's Singing on Stage class perform on Sunday, May 3, at 7 p.m., in the Dorothy Elderdice Studio Theatre in WMC Alumni Hall at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Maryland. The class is taught by Kyle Engler, senior lecturer of Music, and the students perform selections from operas and Broadway musicals.

McDaniel College students perform with the Westminster Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, May 2. Under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in music at McDaniel, the orchestra is composed of McDaniel College and Carroll Community College students, music faculty, and community musicians.
