Six McDaniel College graduates were commissioned May 24 as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army and graduated from the college with Bachelor of Arts degrees on May 25.

Tiffany Marie Vanik earned a master's degree in the reading specialist: literacy leadership graduate program from McDaniel College on May 25. She also received The Joan Develin Coley Award for Excellence in Education during the graduate commencement ceremony.

McDaniel College students were recognized at the April 28 Spring Awards ceremony. Nearly 30 honors for academic achievement and leadership were awarded to juniors, sophomores and freshmen.

McDaniel College juniors were named April 28 to the Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society. Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, was installed at the College in 1963.

Trumpeters is a leadership honor society that recognizes exemplary qualities of leadership, integrity, and sincerity. Those selected are called to serve as positive examples of the campus by devoting themselves to academics, extracurricular activities and service.

McDaniel College students perform with the Westminster Symphony Orchestra. The performance is Saturday, May 4, 3 p.m., at Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road, Westminster, Md. The Westminster Symphony Orchestra is comprised of McDaniel College and Carroll Community College students, as well as community musicians. The orchestra is under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in music at McDaniel College.

Graduating senior cinema majors at McDaniel College premiere student-produced digital features at the McDaniel Cinema Showcase. McDaniel College students on team Liquid Lens competed in the McDaniel College Innovation Challenge Finals on April 15. Liquid Lens by senior Chloe DePiano, communication major from Titusville, N.J., senior Zachary Fortuna, business administration major from Metuchen, N.J., and senior Dustin Miller, communication major from Wyomissing, Pa., is both an aluminum water bottle and social media app aimed at making a positive environmental impact.

Madison Hively, a junior from Frederick (21704), competed in the McDaniel College Innovation Challenge Finals on April 15. Hively presented AWARE, aimed at creating electricity in a renewable way.

McDaniel College students on team Money Mind won $2,000 for third place in the McDaniel College Innovation Challenge Finals on April 15.

McDaniel College students on team Abilitize won $3,000 for second place in the McDaniel College Innovation Challenge Finals on April 15. Abilitize is an advertising agency focused on accessibility that empowers businesses to engage people with disabilities.

Rachael Fox, a junior at McDaniel College from Crofton (21114-2551), won the $10,000 top prize for first place in the McDaniel College Innovation Challenge Finals on April 15.

McDaniel College students performed in the Student Solo Recital on Friday, April 12. The recital featured a selection of vocal and instrumental soloists performing a variety of music spanning from classical to contemporary.
