McDaniel College Students Perform in Student Chamber Music Ensembles
McDaniel College's Student Chamber Ensembles concert is Thursday, April 25, 7 p.m., in Baker Chapel at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. The performance is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in music, students in McDaniel's Flute Choir, Flute Quartet, and Woodwind Ensemble perform along with community musicians.
A highlight of the concert is the Flute Choir performing "Latin Verbs," a piece by Glenwood, Md., composer Jonathan Cohen, who will join the choir as the contra bass flutist. The Flute Choir also plans to perform Kelly Via's "Appalachian Suite" and William Boyce's "Symphony No. 4." Selections for The Flute Quartet include Vivaldi's "Spring Concerto" and Catherine McMichael's "A Gaelic Offering." In addition, the Woodwind Quartet is performing Hindemith Quintet and William Grant Still's "Folk Suite No. 4."

McDaniel College's Jazz Guitar Ensemble performs on Tuesday, April 9, 7 p.m., in Baker Chapel at McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. In addition to the group numbers, the evening also features solos and duets. The performance is free and open to the public.
Directed by Tim Jenkins, adjunct lecturer in music, musical selections include "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" by Stevie Wonder, "Seven Come Eleven" by Charlie Christian, "Joy Spring" by Clifford Brown, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" by Robert Robinson and "Swing 42" by Django Reinhart, as well as original pieces.

McDaniel College's Gospel Choir Concert is Sunday, December 9, 3 p.m. The performance, which is free and open to the public, takes place in WMC Alumni Hall at 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md.
McDaniel College's Gospel Choir, under the direction of Eric Byrd, music lecturer, performs spirituals, as well as traditional and contemporary gospel music. Among the selections are "Happy," "After This," and "Awesome." Opening the concert is Voices of Praise, a smaller ensemble consisting of select members of the Gospel Choir.

McDaniel College Students Perform in Westminster Symphony Orchestra Concert
The Westminster Symphony Orchestra performs at McDaniel College on Saturday, December 8, 3 p.m. The performance, which is free and open to the public, takes place in WMC Alumni Hall at 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md.
Under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in music, the Westminster Symphony Orchestra performs a concert titled "Winter Through the Ages."
Highlights are Corelli's "Christmas Concerto," which includes solos by McDaniel string faculty members Tim Anderson, Nicholas Currie, Lynn Fleming and Alice Tung, Mozart's "Three German Dances," "Suite No. 1" from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" and "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson.

McDaniel College Students Perform in College Band Concert
McDaniel College's College Band Concert is Friday, December 7, 7 p.m. The performance, which is free and open to the public, takes place in WMC Alumni Hall at 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md.
Under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick, senior lecturer in music, the College Band Concert features musical selections from classical to pops. The band features more than 60 students, McDaniel alumni, and community musicians, as well as McDaniel music faculty members Mark Lortz and Jon Seligman.
Selections include "The Boys of Wexford" by Robert Dwyer Joyce and arranged by Sammy Nestico, "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson, "Farandole" (from "L'Arlesienne") by Georges Bizet, Symphonic Dance No. 3, "Fiesta" by Clifton Williams and "Sacred Heart" by Jay Bocook.
The concert also features three pieces conducted by McDaniel students, including Victor Herbert's "March of the Toys/Toyland," Andre Jutrus' "C'est Noel (It is Christmas)," and Franz Gruber's "Stille Nacht."

McDaniel College's Jazz Night is Thursday, December 6, 8 p.m. The performance, which is free and open to the public, takes place in Decker Center Forum at 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md.
Directed by Bo Eckard, senior lecturer in music, the performance highlights the Thursday Jazz Ensemble, Monday, Jazz Ensemble, and the five-piece Jazz Combo. Styles of jazz represented include classic big band, swing, bebop, Latin, Funk, Jazz-rock and Tin Pan Alley.

McDaniel College Students Perform in College Choir Concert
McDaniel College's annual College Choir Concert is Sunday, December 2, 7 p.m. The performance, which is free and open to the public, takes place in Baker Memorial Chapel at 2 College Hill, Westminster, Md. McDaniel's 56th annual tree lighting ceremony follows the concert.
The college choir, under the direction of Margaret Boudreaux, music professor and department chair, celebrates Shakespeare with "The Fanciful Spirit: Songs Inspired by Shakespeare and Others." The choir is accompanied by senior lecturer in music David Kreider on piano.
The featured work is "In Windsor Forest" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Other works include the classic spiritual "Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit" by William Dawson and a variety of seasonal works, such as settings of the Hanukkah song "Y'mei Chanukah," the German folk carol "Still, Still, Still," a Chilean work "Villancico de Cuzco," as well as "Throw the Yule Log On, Uncle John" by P.D.Q. Bach. The concert also includes the Maryland premiere of a new setting of "Sonnet 128" by Robert Cohen.
According to Boudreaux, "The majority of pieces use texts from Shakespeare plays, such as aEUR~Tell me where is fancy bred,' aEUR~Blow, blow thou winter wind,' aEUR~Sigh no more ladies,' aEUR~O mistress mine, where are you going?' and aEUR~Take, oh take those lips away.' Some of these well known texts will be sung in multiple settings by a variety of composers and in diverse styles."
